AI Discovers 25 New Magnetic Materials
Scientists at the University of New Hampshire used AI to create a database of 67,573 magnetic compounds. Most remarkably, the AI identified 25 materials not previously recognized as magnets capable of staying magnetic at high temperatures.
This discovery is significant because today's most powerful magnets depend on rare earth elements that are costly and difficult to secure. "We can reduce dependence on rare earth elements, lower the cost of electric vehicles and renewable-energy systems," said Suman Itani, lead author.
Brain-Like Computers Tackle Supercomputing Math
